How do you know when there is swelling when you cannot see it?

The answer is that there are a number of ways that one can identify swelling without actually being able to see it. The most common way is to identify if someone is suffering from any stiffness, either first thing in the morning on getting up or after prolonged periods of sitting or not moving. Feeling stiff at these times indicates that there is swelling in the area of stiffness and in that sense can be an early warning sign that you may have a problem before you actually get pain. Stiffness is not a sign you are just getting old!
